Param Pujya Shri Bhramanand Saraswati ji of Mahakaleshwar Ashram, Deoband expressed his appreciation towards Swami Dipankar's fight against noise pollution. Expressing his views on the 'No To Noise' campaign, gurudev appreciated the move to engage Gurudwara, Darul Uloom, Church & Temples to play their role in the movement against noise. Gurudev hoped to see the matter being taken up at the international platform and emphasized that noise pollution is a serious issue which is at the verge of reaching fatal levels. According to him irrespective of the source; be it vehicles, trains, aeroplanes or industries; sound pollution should be seen as a threat against human welfare & existence.

'No To Noise' drive led by Swami Dipankar progresses further when in a meeting with the Transport Minister Hon. Nitin Gadkari ji, Swami Dipankar presented a draft of measures to control ambient noise. During the meeting Swami ji also updated the Hon. Minister with the details of activities and developments of the campaign. Hon. Minister appreciated the proposal and gave a positive response and an assurance to work on the suggestions made by Swami ji.

Subjected to public persecution after a remark on disturbance from loudspeaker noise, playback singer Sonu Nigam in a conversation with Swami Dipankar shared his agony and concerns over the state of affairs in the country. He said that first and foremost we need to change our mindset and understand that noise pollution uniformly affects everyone irrespective of which religion they belong. It is a civic problem that neither belongs nor confined or is related to any particular religion.
Feeling positive about people getting politically and socially aware, he hoped that we also become more civilized and tolerant to the needs of others and abide by govt. norms and bylaws regarding permissible sound levels, time and place. Conveying a message of love, peace & tolerance, Sonu Nigam congratulated Swamiji for his ongoing campaign & expressed happiness to be associated with the cause and urged more & more like minded people to come forward in support to make the campaign a success. |
Expressing concern on fatal consequences of sound pollution specifically from loudspeakers at worship places, activist & Noble Peace Prize winner Mr. Kailash Satyarthi voiced his admiration towards Swamiji's endeavor to consolidate people from different spheres and work against odds to reduce noise pollution. In his support to 'No To Noise' Campaign, Mr. Satyarthi further raised his concerns on the form of religious practice of praying via loudspeakers as a primary cause of damage specifically to students, elderly and the ill and said that prayer which is supposed to be a private inner subject need not be displayed as a public affair.

"No To Noise is the need of the hour at a war footing", Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon said evaluating the seriousness of noise pollution in her own words. Congratulating Swamiji, she came forward in full support of the campaign and insisted on the need of educating people through information and creating awareness at the root level and passing it on to more and more people. She said that emphasis should be on the implementation of laws and norms laid by the court on permissible sound levels and time limit. She felt that people in our country needed to develop greater civic sense, consideration and an understanding of their actions that may be the cause of inconvenience to others specially to those in the silent zones. In addition, she said that identifying and implementing preventive measures in the areas prone to noise pollution should be our main focus to curb noise.

Concerned about the high level of noise pollution in the country, Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha, PL Punia said that the solution to the problem rested in the willingness of the people. Determined to remove noise pollution from the environment, Mr Punia gave his commitment to provide every possible support. Appreciating the move made by mosques to remove loudspeakers in Kerela, he hoped that more and more temples too would fall in tune. He also added that it was a crime to create any kind of noise in areas around hospitals and schools which came under silent zone.

Chief Imam of India, Dr Imam Ilyasi supported Swami Dipankar ji's 'bring down loudspeaker' movement from worship places and agreed that mosques should not breach the decibel level norms and that the loudspeakers should serve their purpose without causing inconvenience to people specially in the demarcated silent zones like schools and hospitals.

Highly impressed by Swami ji's 'NoToNoise' initiative to fight noise pollution, former captain and ace cricketer Mohd. Azharuddin voiced his support and appraisal and shared his own encounter with noise from traffic on the roads. He said that we Indians being in a habit of needless random honking should learn from people in countries overseas where horns are used occasionally. Giving stress on the importance of noise reduction he stated that silent zones which covered areas like hospitals and schools should be made completely noise free. Creating awareness by educating people being the key, he repeated that combined with hard work, willingness to bring change always gives way to success.

Speaking to Swami Dipankar on unreasonable and unwanted sounds and their ill effects on our overall health, playback singer Jaspinder Narula said, "Just as our ears react to an inharmonious harsh
note on a musical instrument, in a similar manner our ears react to harsh loud sounds from power horns and variety of other sources". Conveying the message of peace and whole heartedly supporting Swamiji's fight against noise, she said that it is essential to completely remove noise from our lives and that awareness & discipline and firm implementation of law & order is the only solution to this existing problem of noise pollution. |
Mentioning the ill effects of noise pollution on the future generation, actor Vindu Dara Singh urged people to be cautious when using loudspeakers on festivals and honking while driving which contributes most to the already existing high level of pollution. Himself abstaining from honking while driving, he further said that a shift of mindset and thought process is the need of the day to successfully bring a change in the present situation. He also counseled people to abide by the sound level guidelines and norms set by the court.

'No To Noise' campaign finds its counterpart in Babu Bhai who has also been on a journey to fight noise pollution. Whole heartedly supporting Swamiji's 'NoToNoise' campaign against noise, Babu Bhai categorically said that noise is a symbol of insanity and can never represent righteousness and should be completely stopped and removed. He also said that absence of noise not only improves efficiency but also increases productivity.

Father Sunil Ghazan of 150 year old Church of Epiphany, Gurgaon, Haryana stands strongly by Swami Dipankar in support of the 'No To Noise ' campaign. Voicing his opinion Father Sunil strongly stated that using loudspeakers projects as if God is hard of hearing. But the fact is that God needs no loudspeakers to hear or be heard. He further emphasized that for those who have known God, every moment of life is a celebration which they experience in the form of God's divine presence only in silence.

Villagers say 'No To Noise'
In a desperation to end the ongoing conflict in the area arising from use of loudspeakers, members of both the Hindu and Muslim community living in Thiryadaan village after an amicable dialogue settled on a mutual understanding and pulled down loudspeakers from both temple and mosque in the village. Notes of communal harmony and brotherhood dispersed in all directions from this village in Moradabad when the residents also agreed upon a decision to refrain from using loudspeakers for any celebration of either community in future. As a gesture of appreciation and encouragement, 'No To Noise' Campaigner Swami Dipankar made a trip to the temple and mosque in Thiryadaan where he was warmly welcomed and honored equally by both Hindus and Muslims who supported and appreciated Swamiji's effort to reduce unwanted noise. Impressed by their simplicity, love and brotherhood on one hand and a progressive vision for a noise free society on the other, Swamiji congratulated the residents for their act for peace and silence as an example for the rest of the country. |

'No To Noise' campaign moves towards its next phase. Swami Dipankar continues to work on making people aware to adopt measures in their day to day chores that will help bring down noise level. Speaking about the ill effects of loud noise & its impact on health and educating about the importance of creating a noise free environment, teachers of JP Int School & HWPL members took an oath to work in support to create awareness for a noise free environment.

Talking about the everyday growing incidences of noise-induced hearing impairments, Dr Ajay Swaroop Mathur, Chairman, Dept. of ENT at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said that prolonged all day exposure to high sound levels from power horns, traffic and work places like factories damages the auditory nerve which carries auditory sensory information from the inner ear directly to the brain. Treating patients with hearing problems everyday, he added that a change in hearing threshold from 70-75 years is now seen in patients as young as 30-35 years of age group. Exposure to noise from traffic on the roads, homes and factories in the name of modernization is one of the reasons for stress and behavioral disorders such as irritation. He also said that it was unfortunate that there is a failure in implementing control measures of legal prescribed decibel levels of sound in residential or commercial areas. Until and unless preventive measures are put to practice sound problem cannot be tackled.

Director of Preventive Health & Wellness at Ganga Ram Hospital, Dr Sonia Rawat spoke in appraisal of Swamiji's effort to fight noise pollution. Preventive medicine being her field of work she stated the importance of noise control for better health and said that irrespective of its source whether from power horns, loud music or loudspeakers, noise is hazardous and should be completely curbed as it can lead to an increase in risk of heart diseases, depression and increased stress.

ENT Specialist Dr Rakesh from MMG Hospital, Ghaziabad points out the ill-effects of noise pollution on our hearing. According to him loud harsh sound damages the ear cells which may or may not be revived. Treating a number of patients every day he added that in some cases repeated prolonged exposure to loud sounds is incurable and leads to permanent hear loss.

Responding to Swamiji's 'You Report' segment of 'No To Noise' Campaign, Bhupendra from Paandav Nagar, Delhi met Swami Dipankar to share the trauma he has been going through because of exposure to high level of noise. He spoke about being under medication for the last one year to be treated for his fear of noise that made him anxious, causing disturbance in the mind and depression. Thanking Swamiji for creating awareness about noise-induced health hazards through the 'No To Noise' drive, he hoped that this would prevent many more from similar mental pain and suffering that he has been through.
